A Thought Generated by Events of Two Years Ago and Last Week.

"WTF?"
 - T. Quidd, 2014 somewhere out by the barn.

It’s now two years since the massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School and everyone who was slaughtered by a crazy gunman is still very much dead.  I’ve heard of nothing to the contrary.  Has anything been done to prevent such a massacre from happening again?  Some things, yes.  Security measures within the schools, discussion on TV shows, and a lot of assertioms about how more guns will prevent more violence.  As a matter of fact, there are now more guns out there, but is there less violence and are fewer people being killed by them?

Truthfully, it’s still just as easy for a madman to get a semi-automatic weapon with a large capacity magazine and go somewhere and kill a lot of people.  It could happen in a shopping mall, your church, a restaurant or just about anywhere.  Even within a police station.  It isn’t hard to imagine how.  I wonder, sometimes, why we didn’t also keep the right to hold slaves, persecute witches, deny women the vote, or stone them for having premarital sex?  No punishment for the men, of course.  They would simply have been the victims of demonic seduction.

And now, with police killing unarmed citizens so much in the news I wonder this:  why it takes a high school graduate no less than three years to become a registered nurse while the same high school graduate could become an armed police officer after about two months in an academy.  Nurses’ graduate armed with catheters, hypodermic needles and enema bulbs; cops walk out with loaded guns.  Just saying…. Maybe some jobs should require more education and training than they do now.  You know, the ones where people’s lives may depend on professional judgments.
